The University of Wolverhampton Health and Performance Centre in association with British Weightlifting are pleased to offer Masterclasses in Olympic Lifting and Strength Training.
Olympic Lifting Masterclass
This course is perfect for you if you are looking to master the effective technique of the Olympic lifts - the snatch, the clean and the jerk.
You will be given exclusive access to the BWL e-learning platform in the lead up to the practical workshop, which will provide you with a host of resources including; how to lift safely, warmups and cool-downs, training for and competing in Olympic Lifting, videos for the snatch, clean and jerk and a 6-week Olympic Lifting programme. You will also be introduced to the BWL Technical Model, used by BWL Olympic Weightlifting Coaches.
The Olympic lifts are very skilful movements which rely on a combination of good technique, high levels of strength and power, and good flexibility. The 4-hour practical session will take you through the Olympic lifts and BWL teaching exercises.

Strength Training Masterclass
Strength training can improve your flexibility, mobility, improve performance in all sport and lower your risk of injury. Whether you are new to the gym and resistance training or want to expand your current knowledge, this course will leave you feeling confident to be able to safely lift and teach you some of the most effective strength-based exercises.
On the run up to the practical session you will have exclusive access to the BWL e-learning platform to learn about safety in the gym, warmup and cool-down exercises, training tips and a 6-week strength training programme. The 4-hour practical session will teach you the key positions for the BWL strength training barbell exercises:
• Back squat
• Press
• Bent Over Row
• Conventional Deadlift
• Front Squat
• Bench Press
• Stiff Leg Deadlift
• Barbell Curl
• Barbell Lunge
• Power Clean

Delivery
3 hours Independent online learning via the BWL e-learning platform (learners will receive access to BWL online learning at least 1 week ahead of practical day).
4 hour practical workshop at the University of Wolverhampton’s Walsall Campus, delivered by our S&C team within our Health and Performance Suite.
Prerequisites
You must be at least 14 years of age on the first day of the course and have some general experience of weight training.
Length of Course: Half-day practical session (4 hours). Plus, 3 hours e-learning.
